Celebrate World Rhino Day with us as we honour the Celebrate World Rhino Day with us as we honour these magnificent creatures and those who tirelessly protect them.

Take a moment to reflect on your special moments with rhinos and the importance of preserving these endangered animals. From brave rangers to the sacrifices made and the lives that are lost, we must all come together to secure a future for rhinos. The more people who join the fight against poaching through conservation, education, and awareness, the greater our chances of success. While progress has been made, our battle is far from over.

Recently, we welcomed four white rhinos who survived a devastating poaching incident. This serves as a reminder that animals are losing their lives every day and it's our responsibility, alongside our conservation partners, to save them. Together with volunteers, visitors, tourists, and donors, we can continue our crucial work here at Imire. Thank you for your unwavering support. 🤍🦏

Moving four white rhinos is a mammoth task, involv Moving four white rhinos is a mammoth task, involving a LOT of manpower, experienced wildlife vets, helicopters, crates, lorries and industrial lifting gear.
.
During the process of darting and loading the white rhinos onto the vehicles, it was discovered that Mwedzi, the youngest female in the group, had been shot in the shoulder. The fact that she survived this shot at all is a miracle. Thankfully, the bullet missed any vital organs, but is still lodged somewhere in her body.
.
The rhinos are settling in well at Imire. They are being left alone, away from the public, to acclimatise to their new home and de-stress after their trauma.
.
We have high hopes and great anticipation for our new residents. Our goal is for them to not only thrive and breed successfully with our current white rhinos, but to also play a pivotal role in increasing the national rhino population and introducing important new genetics into the metapopulation.

.
In recent weeks, four white rhinos were mercilessly slaughtered at another private conservancy in Zimbabwe. This devastating incident is a stark reminder of the harsh realities of rhino conservation.

Four brave rhinos who miraculously survived the poaching attack were moved to Imire for their protection, in an emergency relocation operation.
Moving a significant tonnage of highly endangered and stressed animals is a monumental task.
.
@theaspinallfoundation and conservation specialists WeWild Africa joined forces with @imire_zimbabwe , @_zimparks and @conservation_management to relocate these animals. The Aspinall Foundation generously funded the entire relocation operation, demonstrating their unwavering support for Imire and rhino conservation in Zimbabwe.
.
The past weeks in a large secured boma at Imire have allowed the rhinos space and peace to recover from the poaching incident and the stress of a big cross-country move. They will be introduced to the wider conservancy and the other rhino in due course.
.
The group of four are a family of three: Ella (10 years old) and her two calves, Bae (5 years old) and Mwedzi (2 years old), and one unrelated male, Bear (13 years old).
.
We are grateful to The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority for their quick action and outstanding facilitation of such an urgent and important relocation, and to The Aspinall Foundation and WeWild Africa for their ongoing support and partnership.
We will keep you posted with further updates on the progress of our newest rhinos!
